On the first day of July 1921 the University of Dhaka opened its doors to students. In the first academic year, the total number of students was 877. At present, approximately 30,000 students are enrolled in this university and are taught by almost 1300 teachers.

There are 10 faculties, 51 departments, 9 Institutes, 18 Residential Halls, 2 Hostels and 18 Research Centers in Dhaka University.
